Is beauty constructed?
Eng 1000

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and what makes something beautiful is depending on the person who looks at that certain thing. Beauty can mean a lot of different things to certain people. Beauty can be a simple flower on the sidewalk or it can be as extreme as the most beautiful girl in the world. Beauty can be simple or complex.
In the modern world today beauty is described as the perfect women that is thin and tall. Back then a beautiful women would be considered a size thirteen and short. It goes to complete opposites and we are defining what we think is beautiful by what society wants us to think is beautiful. For example, in the Ted Talk with Cameron Russell every person perceived beauty as the perfect women who is  a model and tall and thin. While as Aimme Mullins says that beauty is constructed due to the fact that she has prosthetic legs that makes her beautiful and confident due to her new legs. Russell sees that beauty is constructed by society while as Mullins believes that beauty is constructed by who you are and what you make of it.

In conclusion, beauty is constructed by what ever you want beauty to define you as. Beauty can be defined in so many way it all depends on the person that is viewing it. Beauty is constructed by society by social media and what everyone thinks beautiful is. While as others believe that beauty comes within and it is what you makes of being beautiful and how you use it towards your advantage.

  1. Professor Young,
I really want to achieve an A this semester in your class. But i am having a hard time picking out my own mistakes. When I read my own writing it puts it all together in my head and I don't find anything wrong. I want to improve on my constant errors.
    thank you

    1. I want you to earn that A too. For example, one of your persistent errors is knowing when to use a plural form versus singular form of a word:
      man equals singular
      men equals plural
      women equals plural
      woman equals singular.

Look through your essay to see where you have done this and fix it.

      2) As you develop your ideas, remember to elaborate on your point. For example after this sentence: Mullins believes that beauty is constructed by who you are and what you make of it, your reader is expecting you to develop your response. What does "and what you make of it" mean? What examples from the Ted Talk can you include to help you develop this idea?
